Hatching Eggs FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions About Hatching Eggs
How long do hatching eggs stay fertile?
Hatching eggs maintain optimal fertility for 7-10 days when stored properly at 50-60°F with 70% humidity. While eggs can still hatch after this period, hatch rates typically decline after 10 days.
How should I store hatching eggs before incubating?
Store eggs in a cool location (50-60°F) with the pointed end down. Turn them gently once or twice daily to prevent the yolk from sticking to the shell membrane. Avoid refrigerating hatching eggs as temperatures below 50°F can damage fertility.
What is your shipping process for hatching eggs?
We carefully package all hatching eggs with protective materials and ship via USPS Priority Mail to ensure quick delivery. Eggs are collected fresh and shipped within 1-2 days of laying for maximum fertility.
What temperature should I set my incubator to?
For chicken eggs, maintain a temperature of 99.5°F (37.5°C) in a forced-air incubator or 101-102°F in a still-air incubator. Humidity should be around 50-55% for the first 18 days, then increased to 65-70% for hatching.
How long does it take for chicken eggs to hatch?
Chicken eggs typically hatch after 21 days of incubation. Some may hatch a day early or late, which is normal. Avoid opening the incubator during the hatching process as this can affect humidity levels. Duck Hatch after 28 Days of Incubation.
Do you guarantee hatch rates?
While we take every precaution to ensure fertile, quality eggs, we cannot guarantee specific hatch rates due to factors beyond our control including shipping conditions, incubator settings, and handling. We recommend candling eggs at 7-10 days to check development.
What breeds do you offer?
We specialize in heritage breed chickens and several Frizzle Breed. Please visit our collections page to see our current available breeds and seasonal offerings.
Can I pick up eggs locally?
Yes! Local pickup is available by appointment. Contact us to arrange a pickup time and avoid shipping costs.
How do I know if an egg is developing properly?
Candle your eggs at 7-10 days of incubation. You should see veining and a dark spot (the embryo). Clear eggs or those with a visible ring are not developing and should be removed from the incubator.
What if my eggs arrive damaged?
Please contact us immediately with photos if eggs arrive damaged. While we package carefully, we understand shipping can be rough. We'll work with you to find a solution.
